Counting Poem

by  Chanelle Bergeron

There are two trees & two sides of the road at 7.30

in the clear morning of a March day

that no one else is outside for we are

walking down the road, by the sycamore past the sycamore

Kaisa & I, who just got out of the hospital

last night, slept the sedation out

of her system, now someone has her X-Rays

in a folder her little bones

in a folder her "elbow dysplasia"

in a folder both of them—

there are two elbows & two sides of the folder

two trees & two sides of the road & two of us

walking.
